A Clean Kitchen Makes a Healthy Home
Everytime you use a sponge or dishrag to clean the counter table or sink, you unknowingly spread germs around. Recent research shows that the average sponge or dishrag is chock full of bacteria like Staphylococcus and Salmonella which are the two main causes of food-borne illnesses in America. Also, 66% of rags tested had an opportunistic organism, those that can affect immune-compromised people, such as the elderly, pregnant, sick and the young.
Where are all the germs coming from?
The Staph germs probably come from your hands, so washing them with an antimicrobial soap would help. The Salmonella germs come from meat and poultry juices that spread around on counters, refrigerator shelves and are dumped down the drain. Once you wipe up with the rag or sponge, the bacteria are put into an environment that is moist and ideal for growth and can then be spread anywhere, even onto your hands when you wring it out.
Cleaning Tips
The proliferation and spread of bacteria in the kitchen is a preventable problem.
Here is a list of ideas to help keep the bacteria at bay:
-Do not use dish rags. Rags have much more surface area and are usually left damp and folded while drying.
-Replace those stinky sponges. That smell is telling you something. You can stick the sponge in the dishwasher to disinfect it.
-Consider using a germ-resistant sponge. They have an antimicrobial agent that prevents the germs from multiplying for the life of the sponge.
-When wiping up meat juices, use a paper towel instead and throw it away. Do not reuse.
-Clean kitchen surfaces with a cleaner that is specifically made to kill kitchen bacteria.
-Use what the chefs of the world use, sliced lemons or lemon juice to clean cutting boards. The juice kills off many bacteria that are in the kitchen.

Who benefits from Chiropractic care?
Everyone can benefit from the experience of chiropractic care. The soft tissue work that I use along with spinal alignment helps to normalize the body and prepares it for the onslaught of our daily lives. Experience with my patients bears out the benefits discussed in my blog and I believe you could benefit as well.
Normal nerve transmission results in normal mind and body function. Normal posture-spinal alignment is a prerequisite for normal nerve transmission. To achieve normal spinal alignment we need a level foundation. If not level, I can help to make changes through the use of heel lifts, specific spinal adjustments, exercises and sometimes traction. By specific, I mean inducing motion into a specific segment or vertebra that does not have normal motion in 3-dimensions. This is performed in office. I use Diversified, Gonstead, Thompson and non-force Activator and Sacral-occipital chiropractic techniques.
Frequency: Unlike pain, an abnormally aligned posture-spine does not usually develop overnight. More likely, it develops over days, weeks, months, and years as a result of injuries and daily repeated abnormal postures from sleep, sitting, work, sports, stress etc. Therefore we cannot expect spinal re-alignment to occur overnight. Fortunately, it doesn’t take as long to correct as it took to develop, unless there is advanced “wear and tear”. But a concerted effort must be made and maintained. Just like dental care-hygiene, daily attention must be given to posture-spine awareness.
In terms of in-office care, in the beginning, an acute case, such as a motor vehicle accident, might need to be treated daily. This could be 5 days a week, but not less than 2 days per week, until correction is achieved. 5 days per week is not feasible for most patients as well as for me and my family. I give the patient the option of 2- 5 days per week until normal curvature is achieved. Every 4-6 weeks, a re-exam is performed. Sometimes more than one phase of visits is required. Once “correction” or “as near normal as possible” is achieved, 1 visit every month is recommended for wellness care. I make these recommendations with full confidence, patient satisfaction, and the scientific medical and chiropractic literature to back it up. This is the care I provide for my family and receive for myself.
Please contact me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns or would like to make an appointment for yourself or a family member.

Healthy Body, Healthy Planet
We all make healthy choices for our bodies, but what about our planet? How can we make healthy choices for our planet? All the choices we make have some affect on our environment. Here are some tips that you can use to help lessen the impact on our earth.
· Replace regular light bulbs with newer compact florescent lights.
· Turn off your computer and monitor when not in use.
· Unplug your electronic chargers when not charging.
· When buying new electronics or appliances, look for the Energy Star certificate.
· Save paper by printing on both sides.
· Bike or walk to work when ever possible.
· Recycle plastic shopping bags, and use reusable tote bags.
News you can use!
Work place stress has been associated with heart disease. Although the mechanism is not completely clear. A recent study shows that, in addition to the direct effect of stress hormones on body systems, stress changes peoples behavior - provoking smoking and drinking and increasing resistance to exercising and eating right.
Consider this...
There are only five viable options available to most allopathic physicians when faced with a patient who has a health problem:
1. Wait for it to go away or just live with it
2. Prescribe drugs in the hope that this will minimize the symptoms.
3. Refer the patient for surgery to remove the diseased organ
4. Refer to physical therapy
5. Experimental options, the most frightening on this list.
These are only a few of the reasons why the use of alternative health care is on the rise around the world.
Invest in your health!
Chiropractic treatment is an excellent way to help keep your body aligned. It balances out the muscles and helps keep the structural integrity of the spine intact. My philosophy is that with optimum structure comes optimum function and your body can function at its best when it is aligned properly. A healthy spine creates a healthy body. Think of Chiropractic as preventative medicine and an investment in your future health.
